Here is a comparison of the cost. If you filled up your average car's fuel tank with ink, it would cost you somewhere in the region of 380000 pounds (average cost of ink per CC from the likes of Canon or HP). Anyway, one thing that wastes ink is head cleaning. Like me, you may only have a problem with the black inkjet head, but when you do your head clean, all the colours get used up as all the heads get blasted through with ink. What a waste. Blocked heads can easily be cleared by immersing them in warm water (there is plenty of helpfull advice on other Youtube postings). They never suggest in their help guides that you can try that first before you go wasting another tenner's worth of ink. I think I would have more respect for manufacturers if they included in their utility, a way of choosing the nozzles you want to try and clear and not every damned one in the printer. Oh, thats an idea - must have a look on the internet to see if there is software for this.
